WHERE DOES LCS COME FROM?

The theoretical background is a unique blend of research in genetics, neural science, behavioural science, and Jungian psychology. Focusing on the roots of individual character, it helps show how character influences how people tend to think, feel and behave. And since leaders are people first, leaders second, LCS enables people to explore how to develop strategies for leadership that are in harmony with their values, beliefs and ways of being.

The practical background stems from the application of LCS to leadership challenges over more than 15 years. Originally developed at Cranfield School of Management, it has been refined and enhanced through work with leaders in organisations in both the private and public sectors, global organisations and SMEs, and with large groups and with individuals

As part of the validation process, LCS has been extensively used in parallel with a wide range of respected instruments, including MBTI™ (see Beyond MBTI), FIRO-B, Belbin, the Thomas Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, Benchmarks, and the Thomas International PPA System.

In 2006, to coincide with the launch of the book Leadership, Character & Strategy: Exploring Diversity, LCS went through its eighth complete rewrite to achieve a very high level of validity.
